Disneyland guests will soon be in training with Marvel’s Avengers at the brand new Avengers Campus as Disney announced the new area will officially open on July 18th at Disney’s California Adventure.
Avengers Campus will be Disney’s largest Marvel themed land and will boast the following attractions and experiences:
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT! (already open)
- WEB Slingers: A Spiderman Adventure
- The Sanctum
- Avengers Headquarters
- Pym Test Kitchen
- WEB Suppliers
- The Collector’s Warehouse (already open)
The already open, and excellent, Guardians of the Galaxy will be joined by a second ride; Web Slingers. After Peter Parker’s SPider-Bots get stuck in replecation mode and escape, guests help Parker fix the mess by learning to shoot virtual webs from their wrists like Spiderman.
The Sanctum is an area where guests, sorry trainee superheroes, get to meet Dr Strange and learn the secrets of the mystic arts and the long-ago battle that threatened to tear a hole in the fabric of time and reality, which resulted in the creation of the amazing Orb of Cagliostro.
Night time visitors will see The Sanctum flowing with magical energy too. It is sure to be spectacular.
Avengers HQ is a place to see The Avengers in action as villain Taskmaster (sson to feature in The Black Widow movie) attempts n attack on the Quinjet that sits upon the roof.
Pym Test Kitchen is the new quick service restaurant. Guests will sit in the lab amongst oversized cans and condiment bottles. There will also be a new bar selling cocktails and craft beers called Pym Tasting Lab. Additionally Shawarma Place provides food on the go and a new food cart Terran Treats will offer snacks and drinks too.
And it wouldn’t be Disney without the opportunity to have your cash extracted from your purse or wallet! WEB Suppliers and The Collector’s Warehouse will offer a wide range of MArvel themed merchandise.
Overall, Avenger’s Campus, looks well thought through. There’s a nice range of rides, shows and eateries. But guests will also find many Marvel characters walking around including Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Ant Man and The Wasp, Doctor Strange, Thor, Black Panther and The Guardians of the Galaxy.
The chance for unique meet and greets is exciting and the simple back story of wanting to train new recruits will work exceptionally well. Visitors whether Marvel fans or not are sure to love the immersive area.
I’m most curious about Dr Strange’s attraction The Sanctum. The fact this is a major attraction suggests that Dr Strange will have a huge role to play in the next phase of the MCU. The same could be said about Black Widow, with the villain of her story, Taskmaster, set to play a central role as the bad guy within Avenger’s Campus.
As the MCU movies evolve the story furtehr it will be interesting to see how Avenger’s Campus will adapt and change to new storylines outside of the parks.
